Apply Now to Participate in 2020 Summer of Living Democracy

Living Democracy provides a unique living-learning experience for selected Auburn University undergraduate students in the summer of 2020.  Students are paired with one of our Alabama communities for a ten-week experience in community and civic engagement. Participating communities for 2019 included Camden, Chatom, Collinsville, and Elba.

Students work collaboratively with community partners and local citizens to design, execute, and evaluate community projects.  Housing is provided by the communities, and students are able to earn a $2,000 stipend through Auburn University payroll for their work. Students are assigned individually to communities by project directors.

Students will be required to take a 1-hour course in the spring of 2020 in preparation for the summer ahead.

Living Democracy is supported by the David Matthews Center for Civic Life, and students serve as Jean O’Connor-Snyder Interns with the Mathews Center throughout their participation in the program.
