Growing up in Cincinnati, Ohio, Bram Sheckels was fortunate to be immersed in the arts from a very young age. Originally an aspiring musician, he shifted his focus to theatre after being granted a design opportunity in high school and falling in love with the design process. Sheckels moved to Indianapolis to pursue a BS in arts administration/theatre at Butler University.
In 2016 he was awarded the assistant production manager position at The Schrott Center for the Arts under the Butler Arts and Events Center. He was promoted to the production manager role within two years. During his tenure at the BAEC, he oversaw the production aspects of over 300 yearly events, managed and trained a crew of 30, assisted with the adoption of two additional venues, and oversaw several large-scale upgrades to the lighting, audio, and technical systems of those three spaces. In addition to his production manager duties, Sheckels regularly functioned as a supplemental designer, recording engineer, videographer, editor, and consultant for Butler University and its clients. He served on or chaired several search committees, and utilized his position and gear to hold training classes for the IATSE apprenticeship program. Recently, he is most proud of his role in transitioning a full 113 show season into an entirely virtual experience for Butler’s music and theatre departments.
In his free time, Sheckels tries to keep up his freelance work in lighting design and stagecraft. As a stage manager, he served as the production SM of Indianapolis Opera for two seasons. He has stage-managed for ballet, musicals, concerts, and opera, in addition to functioning as an SM for over 500 events at The Schrott Center. Some of his design credits include The Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, The Indianapolis Symphonic Choir, Anderson University, TedX Indianapolis, and Butler University. He is a proud journeyman member of IATSE local 30.
Sheckels lives in Alabama with his partner, Kelly, who is also a production manager as well as a freelance recording artist and engineer. They share a home/studio/workshop with their two dogs, Nena and Mackie, and their cat, Becca.
