CLA presents 2024 faculty and staff awards

The College of Liberal Arts honored its 2024 faculty and staff award recipients on Wednesday, April 10, during a reception held at the Ag Heritage Park Pavilion.

This year’s Promotion of Excellence in Teaching and Learning (PETL) award recipients include:

Academy of Outstanding Teachers
Murray Jardine, Professor, Department of Political Science

Teaching Excellence Award
Kate Craig, Associate Professor, Department of History
Daniel Vergara, Assistant Professor, Department of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures

Online Teaching Award
Karen Sonik, Associate Professor, Department of Art and Art History

Lecturer Award
Julie Nelson, Lecturer, Department of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures

Instructor Award
Cheryl Frazier, Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow, Department of Philosophy

Graduate Teaching Assistant Award
Rebecca Dunterman, GTA, Department of Psychological Sciences

Advising Award
Michelle Allen, Academic Advisor, Office of Student Services
Paul McCormick, Lecturer, School of Communication and Journalism

Wendy DesChene, Jane Dickson Lanier Professor, Department of Art and Art History
Roderick T. Long, Professor, Department of Philosophy
James Shelley, Lloyd and Sandra Nix Professor, Department of Philosophy

Funding Support for Grant Writing Award
Tiffany Brown, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychological Sciences

Rebecca Hamlett, lead administrative assistant for the Department of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures, received the Staff Employee of the Year award, and Magalí Zaslabsky, communication and marketing specialist for the Department of Theatre and Dance, received the A&P Employee of the Year award.

“Our faculty and staff members set an example every day for excellence in teaching, outreach and research,” Dean Jason Hicks said. “With these awards, we proudly elevate their important work in promoting student success and the land-grant mission of Auburn University.”
