Initiative combats 'brain drain' in Randolph County

The Randolph County Youth Development Initiative (RCYDI) began when Marian Royston, an Auburn University and Living Democracy alumna and Roanoke native, decided to help her hometown combat an issue known as the rural “brain drain” -- the outmigration of talented, young people from rural communities.

Collinsville Study Club continues tradition of serving others

The Collinsville Study Club has been a part of the town’s history since April of 1929.  Through the decades, the Study Club has followed its motto: “We study that we may serve.”  Club member Jennifer Wilkins said, “The goal of the club is to be of service to the community.”

Two events celebrate traditions, bring crowds to Collinsville

I attended my first Collinsville planning meeting for two fall events on May 16 where I learned about two important local events: the Turkey Trot and the Quilt Walk. The meeting was held in Collinsville’s very own history museum. Board members and I sat at a handcrafted dark wood table donated by Bobby Elrod.
