Sunday I attended the Harris Temple Church of God in Christ. I was somewhat nervous for a couple of reasons. I had not been to church in a long time, I did not know anyone who would be at the church, and I had never been to an African American church.

- Tour East Alabama works together to promote tourism

On June 23, Tour East Alabama conducted a meeting at Cheaha State Park. The meeting took place inside of Bald Rock Lodge. Twelve attendees representing Calhoun, Chambers, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Randolph, Talladega and Tallapoosa counties gathered with a common goal of promoting tourism in East Alabama.

Building on a wealth of experience in creating opportunities, Brenda Tuck became the executive director of the Marengo County Economic Development Agency in 2012. During the past four years that Tuck has worked with the MCEDA, she has helped bring up to 20 businesses to the region.

He is more than a pharmacist. Brandon Boswell arrives every morning at Collinsville Drugs to open the doors at 9 a.m. to proudly serve the community. Despite growing up with "not that much money," Boswell knew from an early age that he wanted to help others.

- Elba City Council takes care of business

The Elba City Council holds meetings on the second and fourth Monday of each month at the City Hall beginning at 5:30 p.m. This past Monday, I decided to attend their meeting. I wasn't sure what to expect. I had never been to a City Council meeting before.
