As I reminisce on my summer, I owe it to Selma that I am now more comfortable and motivated to do community work in my hometown or any other place I may learn to call home. For 10 weeks I was compelled to drift away from my comfort zone and adapt to a new environment and way of life.

Racial tensions have openly plagued the city’s past from the Civil War through the Civil Rights battles later.

Imagine living in a community that didn’t have its own schools, medical facility, service station, or dining options. Bogue Chitto is one of those communities. The small residential hub in rural Dallas County is about 20 miles west of Selma. County Road 3 runs straight through the community and out into nearby Orrville.

- Basketball Camp Focuses on Fun, Faith, Bridging Divides

All In Sports Outreach Inc. has a mission to bring Selma together through faith, youth, and a little bit of basketball. The Christian group held a three-day basketball camp for Selma’s youth this past week. Over 85 kids showed up to the first day of camp.
