Members and recent graduates of the Elba High School Interact Club completed their summer service project July 11. They, along with club sponsors Buffy Lusk and Laurie Chapman and Auburn University Living Democracy student Caroline Allen, repainted the parking lines of the student parking lot at Elba High.

- Elba First United Methodist Church Embraces Change

The oldest church in Elba has seen a lot of change in its 104 years. Most recently, it experienced the retirement of the Rev. Stanley Carter, who had led the church for 11 years. This summer, the Rev. Michael Lawler was assigned to the church, coming from Eclectic United Methodist Church.

- Main Street Designation Adds Spark to Celebration

Downtown Elba was alive with spirit as the Chamber of Commerce presented the “Let Freedom Ring” event celebrating Independence Day and Elba’s Main Street Alabama designation. The event featured watermelon eating contests, a parade, live music and speakers from city leaders and Mary Helmer, Main Street Alabama director.

Many of Elba’s citizens are lifelong residents. Those who grew up in the town have seen many changes throughout their lives. These people include Chris Parker and Bryant Ware. Both were raised here and attended Elba High School.

- Tiger Town Park Reflects Spirit of Elba

What used to house classrooms, offices, teachers and students at Elba High is now the entrance to Tiger Town Park and serves as a symbol of the resilience and innovation the people of Elba have come to master. Today, on the campus of the old high school, a menagerie of repurposed structures and spaces greets visitors.
