The ever-encroaching start of the school year means that all kinds of high school extracurriculars are starting up—or in this case, tuning up. The Elba High School Marching Tiger Band is busy preparing for the upcoming 2019 season in band camp.

Phillip Smith, a science teacher at Elba High School, spent most of his summer painting his new classroom. Inspirational quotes now line the walls, and his adjacent lab is covered with scientific equations and theories.

- Group brings men of different faiths together

I was invited to join a Bible Study that meets every Wednesday at 6:30 a.m. by Tom Maddox, a member of the Church of Christ. This Bible study group is attended by a variety of members of the community, including factory workers and retired folks. The most unique thing is that they come from a variety of denominations, each with unique convictions on aspects of the Bible.
