The other day as I was driving down the road in Henagar, a town located near Collinsville, I passed an interesting sign with faded wooden letters that invited, “Come join us for cowboy church! Every Sunday at 10.” The next Sunday, I decided to drive up the dirt road to a little barn in the country to see what this was all about.

- Special Concert Marks Progress for Cricket Theatre

One ornate fixture immediately jumps out in the night sky above Main Street in Collinsville. The Cricket Theatre marquee, restored in 2016, is a bright beacon to newcomers driving into Collinsville at night. On May 26, 2018, hundreds of Collinsville residents lined up under the fluorescent sign to see The Primitive Quartet, with special guest The Baileys, perform.

As many celebrated the Fourth of July with fireworks, cookouts, and time with friends, it was also a good time to remember the sacrifices those who serve in the military have made for our country. The Collinsville Veteran’s Memorial Park, located right down from the train tracks downtown, serves as a powerful reminder.

Direct Patient Care (DPC) is a new type of medicine in which patients, many without insurance, can pay a monthly rate in exchange for primary care service. The small community of Collinsville now has this new type of medical practice. Valley Care DPC is Dr. Frances Koe’s clinic.

Collinsville Health and Rehab, located on Highway 11, is one of the last family-owned and operated nursing facilities in Alabama. The home, owned by Coker family, has a deep history in the area and offers a different mindset when it comes to delivering care.
