Departmental Scholarships

The Department of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures invites qualified students to apply for the following scholarship opportunities which reward student excellence within our department and encourage incoming freshman to continue studying foreign languages:

Castanoli Young Scholars in Foreign Language

Two awards in the amount of $2000.00 given annually to reward high-achieving and motivated freshmen who are enrolled in Auburn University Department of World Languages, Literatures and Culturescourses.

  • All Foreign Language Majors and Minors qualify; preference will be given to Majors if there is a major in that language
  • Must have a Freshman standing
  • A minimum of 3.5 GPA

Deadlines: All applicants must complete two separate applications.

  • AUSOM (Auburn University Scholarship Opportunity Manager) application by 4:45 pm CST on December 15th
  • Department of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures application by February 17th

Wiatt Achievement Award

Fifteen awards in the amount of $1000.00 given annually to high-achieving students of any foreign language taught by the Auburn University Department of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures. If possible, at least one awardee per language.

  • Foreign Language Majors; Foreign Language Minors qualify only for those areas without a Major, i.e., Asian Studies (Chinese, Japanese, and Korean), Classics, Global Cultures, and Italian
  • Must have Sophomore, Junior, or Senior standing
  • A minimum of 3.5 GPA

  • Department of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures application by February 17th

Thomas Nadar Memorial Endowed Scholarship

One award in the amount of $2000 (or two awards of $1000) given to high-achieving and outstanding student(s) pursuing a German (FLGR) or German-International Trade (FLGT) major in the Auburn University Department of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures.

  • The student must be a FLGR or FLGT major
  • Must have taken at least two semesters of German at Auburn University
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0

Deadlines: All applicants must complete two separate applications.

  • AUSOM (Auburn University Scholarship Opportunity Manager) application by 4:45 pm CST on February 1st
  • Department of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures application by February 17th

José A. (Pepe) Escarpanter Memorial Endowed Scholarship

One award in the amount of $1000 per year for four years given annually to reward high-achieving and motivated incoming freshmen who will pursue Spanish (FLSP) or Spanish-International Trade (FLST) majors in the Auburn University Department of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures.

  • The student must be a FLSP or FLST major
  • GPA based, 3.0 minimum GPA
  • Must demonstrate financial need as verified by Office of Financial Services
  • Deadline: February 1st of each academic year
