Justin Gardiner is the author of Beneath the Shadow: Legacy and Longing in the Antarctic published as part of the Crux Literary Nonfiction Series by the University of Georgia Press, as well as the poetry collection Naming the Lifeboat from Main Street Rag. His writing has appeared in journals that include The Missouri Review, Blackbird, Quarterly West, Zone 3, and ZYZZYVA. Gardiner is a graduate of Warren Wilson’s MFA Program, where he was awarded both the Larry Levis Post-Graduate Stipend and the Joan Beebe Teaching Fellowship. In 2012-13, he also served as the Margery Davis Boyden Wilderness Writing Fellow, sponsored by PEN Northwest. He is an assistant professor at Auburn University, as well as the nonfiction editor of The Southern Humanities Review. His current writing projects include a long lyric essay about superheroes, and a memoir of sorts in which each chapter is set inside a different national park or wilderness area.
