About Me

Rebecca Oliver is a Lecturer of Public Speaking. Rebecca encourages her students to practically connect an understanding of speech content, structure, and delivery to the professional sphere through 1) activity-based learning and 2) audience analysis. Teaching public speaking is Rebecca’s passion. She values the transformative experience the course offers students to grow as more confident and effective communicators. Rebecca strives to create an environment where students feel both supported and challenged.

Rebecca received her B.S. and M.A. degrees from Auburn University and is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Alabama in Communication and Information Sciences. In complement to Public Speaking, Rebecca’s teaching experiences include the following courses: Argumentation and Debate, Rhetoric and Popular Culture, and Critical Decision Making. Her research on rhetoric and pedagogy has been published in Argumentation and Advocacy, Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly, and other journals. Rebecca’s research has also been featured in multiple ‘Great Ideas for Teaching Students’ (G.I.F.T.S.) presentations at the National Communication Association Conference (NCA).

When she isn’t teaching, Rebecca enjoys Auburn athletic events, concerts, comedy shows, hiking, and pampering her dogs.
