Welcome to the Animation area at Auburn University! Our program promotes a unique creative environment for the mastery of Animation. Students will engage in hands-on experiences guided by accomplished faculty who are experts in their fields. Our commitment to practical knowledge ensures a well-rounded education that goes beyond the theoretical and allows students to develop their unique storytelling through exciting time-based media.
Coursework
Blending traditional techniques with cutting-edge technologies, the animation curriculum at Auburn University prepares students for dynamic and broad careers in the ever-evolving field of animation. Students pursuing Animation take a series of courses in 2D and 3D Animation, where they gain both foundational and advanced skills in both traditional and digital animation applications in a variety of industry standard software including Adobe Creative Cloud and Autodesk Maya in order to create exciting animations.
Our students have gone beyond the classroom with their knowledge and have participated in a variety of internships, including at major animation studios like Nickelodeon and Disney.

Facilities
Auburn has a dedicated student Animation lab on the second floor of Biggin Hall. The lab has Apple Studio desktops with industry software that students use in their coursework. In addition to the computers and software available for student use, they have access to Wacom drawing tablets, DSLR cameras, and other equipment critical for a variety of animation techniques.
Minor in Animation
The Minor in Animation is open to all students, excluding studio art and art history majors. Led by expert faculty with research and industry experience, the minor is designed to equip students with a foundation of animation skills. The upper-level courses in the minor include projects that students can use to build a portfolio or reel.

Studio Art Lab/Materials Fee
The Department of Art & Art History charges a studio art lab/material fee of $100 per course for all studio art courses (ARTS courses designated STU in the AU Bulletin). This fee will partially defray the cost of materials supplied to students enrolled in studio courses, such as canvas, clay, glazes, inks, metal, photo chemicals and wood; and the maintenance and replacement of studio equipment, like cameras, enlargers, kilns, presses and printers.
