I You We Who Me

I You We Who Me

The Department of Art & Art History in the College of Liberal Arts at Auburn University is pleased to present I You We Who Me, an exhibition of painting, sculpture, and animation by Adam Lovitz, Patrick Maguire, and Ashley Wick. The exhibition opens in Biggin Gallery on September 5 and runs through September 29, 2017. The artists will present a lecture on their work on Tuesday, September 5 at 5 p.m. in Biggin 005; a public reception in the gallery will follow. This event is free and open to the public, and Biggin Gallery is wheelchair accessible.

Adam Lovitz  layers acrylic residues that soak in mucky water with paint chips and minerals,  reworking a surface through an embodiment of terrestrial relic licked with daily ruminations.   Whether it is the dust on earth or the wonderment of a planet not yet explored, or perhaps the debris that is littered on a city sidewalk to the intermixing of memories, there is a gathering between the intimate and expansive nature of the universe as explored through the handling of paint on a surface.
Lovitz resides in Philadelphia.

Patrick Maguire is a recent graduate from the MFA program at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art.  His work has recently been shown in group and solo shows at the Ice Box, Aquinas College, Lump Gallery and Space 1026.

Ashley Wick's artwork explores connections between love, longing, natural phenomena, intuition and fear. In Wick's animations and sculptures, she brings life to and anthropomorphizes disembodied body parts, animals, and insects to tell her story through song and stream of consciousness story telling. She has exhibited throughout Philadelphia and New York  in venues such as Fleisher Ollman Gallery, Marginal Utility, The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts Museum, NADA NY, SPRING/BREAK Art Show, Kunstraum LLC, and Bull and Ram Gallery. Wick was a recipient of the Fleisher Wind Challenge, the Linda Lee Alter Award for painting, and an emerging artist grant from the John Anson Kittridge Fund.
