Dr. Anne-Katrin Gramberg, Senior Counsel to the President, Senior Fellow and Former Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, is a native of Norderney, Germany, who earned a Ph.D. in German with emphasis on Business from Michigan State University, and joined Auburn’s faculty in 1992.  During her tenure on the faculty of the Foreign Languages and Literatures department, she excelled as a scholar publishing several articles in referred journals and authoring and editing nine books on German language for business and economics.  As full professor and chair of her department, she demonstrated keen leadership skills, improved the financial standing of the department, and expanded its programs including the initiation of the Women’s Leadership Institute, the establishment of Auburn’s testing center for the International Examination of German in Business and Economics, study abroad programs, and joint programs with other institutions.

As Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, she strengthened the college by implementing Programs for Excellence in Research and Creative work, establishing the Civic Engagement Initiative, supporting and co-organizing sustainability and environmental initiatives, as well as programs in the arts, the languages, Study Abroad, outreach, and fundraising.

She serves as a member of the University Budget Advisory Council, the University Strategy Review Council, on the Research Initiative for the Study of Diversity Advisory Board, and is a University Senate Presidential Appointee.  Beyond the University she serves on the Executive Board of the Alabama Germany Partnership, and is a member of the Committee on Research Universities of the Council for Colleges of Arts and Sciences.  She is also frequently invited to give public presentations, such as a recent talk at the Annual Conference of the Centers for International Business Education and Research (CIBER)

Dr. Gramberg leads with a clear vision—respect for cultural differences and a desire for the free exchange of ideas that emphasizes integrity, inquiry, and civility for the sake of educated thoughtful citizenship.
