About Me

Chris Qualls has taught at Auburn University for over a decade and has had the pleasure of teaching thousands of students in his introduction to theatre classes over the years. As associate professor in the Department of Theatre, he teaches stage, film and voice acting. He received his MFA in acting from the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and his BA in communication studies/film from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has also taught at the ASF Academy and has worked as a voice-over actor for the past thirty years. His clients have included the U.S. Army, Hardeeā€™s Corporation, Cengage Learning, and Caterpillar Tractor. His research/creative work focuses on the integration of classical and non-traditional approaches to the performance of Shakespeare, and the collection, adaptation, and performance of oral histories as they relate to social justice and human rights. His play, The Synaptic Gap, was created from over 50 hours of interviews on bipolar disorder, depression, and schizophrenia.
