The Auburn University Masters in Social Work program is currently in candidacy for Accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The undergraduate Social Work Program began in 1975 and has been fully accredited since 1978. The bachelor's program successfully completed re-affirmation in June 2016 and renewed accreditation through 2024. It is expected that the MSW Program accreditation will be equally successful.
CSWE accreditation is a multi-step process utilizing a benchmark framework that includes program self-studies, site visits, and Committee on Accreditation (COA) reviews. The process takes a minimum of three years.
Initial Accreditation covers those students who were admitted in the academic year in which the program was granted candidacy and they are considered to have graduated from a CSWE-accredited social work program.
MSW program progress towards Accreditation:
- MSW program approval by the Auburn University Board of Trustees: Achieved February 2016
- Approval by the Alabama Council on Higher Education: Achieved September 2016
- Candidacy status: In Candidacy, May 2017
- Full Accreditation: Anticipated February 2020
