Lecture and networking reception featuring Gov. Kay Ivey

The Women's Leadership Institute in the College of Liberal Arts will host a lecture and networking reception featuring Alabama Governor Kay Ivey on Thursday, Oct. 26, at 4 p.m. in the Telfair Fair Peet Theatre.

Ivey, an Auburn University alumna ('67), will be joined by former Auburn University Student Government Association (SGA) Presidents Cindy Holland Torbert ('89) and Lauren Hayes Smith ('09), along with current SGA President Jacqueline Keck, for the lecture “Auburn Women Leaders, Past and Present.”

“As we celebrate 125 years of Auburn women, we thought it would be fitting to honor our most distinguished alumna, the Governor of our state, the Honorable Kay Ivey, who had an illustrious career here at Auburn in the 1960s,” said Dr. Barbara Baker, the executive director of the Women's Leadership Institute. “Ivey served as the president of the Women's SGA and was the first woman to serve as vice-president of the AU SGA.”

On April 10, 2017, Ivey was sworn in as the 54th Governor of the State of Alabama in the Old Senate Chamber in the Alabama State Capitol by Acting Chief Justice Lyn Stuart, who is also an Auburn alumna.

The lecture and networking reception is being held in celebration of 125 Years of Auburn Women. Ivey will deliver a keynote address discussing leadership advice and her time as an undergraduate at Auburn.

“Recognizing that only three women have served as SGA president in our 125 years of women, we thought that bringing these distinguished women—Cindy Holland Tolbert, Lauren Hayes Smith, and Jacqueline Keck—on stage with our governor would be very inspirational for the next generation of women leaders here at Auburn,” Baker said.

Seating is limited to invited guests and ticket holders. To reserve a free ticket, please contact wli@auburn.edu. Auburn faculty, staff, and students should park in their assigned zones. Parking will be available for invited guests on the 4th floor of the Stadium Parking Deck. Parking passes are not required. The event will also be live streamed via The Auburn Plainsman Facebook page.
