Strings Featured in Orchestra and Chamber Music Concerts
The growing string area of the Department of Music will be featured in two concerts this week: Auburn University/Community Orchestra Concert on Tuesday, November 10, and the Student Chamber Ensemble Concert on Thursday, November 12.
The Auburn University/Community Orchestra will present a concert on Tuesday, November 10 at 7:30 pm at Auburn First Baptist Church. The orchestra will perform an evening of English music for strings with pieces by Edward Elgar, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Henry Purcell. Featured selections will be Elgar’s Serenade for String Orchestra and Introduction and Allegro, Vaughan-Williams’ Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, and Purcell’s Chacony in G minor.
Seven student chamber ensembles will perform on Thursday, November 12 at 7:30 pm in Goodwin Recital Hall. The ensembles include the Bassoon Ensemble, Wind Quintet, Guitar Ensemble, String Trio, Eagle Saxophone Quartet, String Quartet, and Tiger Saxophone Quartet. All ensembles are made up of both music majors and non-majors. This diverse concert will feature music ranging from a fugue by J.S. Bach to a tango by contemporary composer Thierry Escaich.
Advanced tickets are available online for all patrons (students and non-students) at $10 per ticket, available until day of the event. Patrons will need to bring one form of ID to pick up their ticket from the will-call table set up one hour before the event begins. The name on the ID must match the name on the order. If advanced tickets are not picked up by fifteen minutes prior to the event, the patron forfeits their right to a seat. Regular tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 for students and children, and will be sold at the door one hour prior to performance time.
