Faculty Jazz, Symphonic Winds, Orchestra, Low Brass Ensembles to Perform

The Department of Music is proud to offer four concerts this week. On Monday, March 7, Department of Music faculty members will perform a jazz recital. On Tuesday, March 8, the Symphonic Winds will perform a midday pre-Italy concert, and the Auburn University/Community Orchestra will perform a concert in the evening. On Wednesday, March 9, the Trombone Choir and the Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble will perform. Program details for each are listed below, and online tickets may be purchased through the event listings on our calendar until noon the day of the event.

On Monday, March 7, Department of Music faculty will perform in a jazz concert at 7:30 pm at Goodwin Recital Hall. This program will feature the music of Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, and Bix Beiderbecke. All transcriptions have been done by Michael Pendowski, saxophone and jazz professor. Music faculty performing are: Michael Pendowski, woodwinds; Mark DeGoti, trumpet; Matt Wood, trombone; Joshua Pifer, piano; David Ballam, double bass; and Doug Rosener, drums. Non-faculty Taylor Pierce will perform on guitar.

The Auburn University Symphonic Winds will perform a concert in 134 Goodwin Music Building on Tuesday, March 8, from 12:30-1:45pm.  The concert will feature music the ensemble will perform the following week on their tour of Italy.  Highlights include Drum Music by John Mackey, Italian Rhapsody by Julie Giroux, Selections from Star Wars by John Williams, and The Stars and Stripes Forever by John Phillip Sousa. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to attend. The concert will count towards music appreciation concert attendance requirements.  Admission is free.    

The Auburn University/Community Orchestra will present a concert on Tuesday, March 8 at 7:30 pm in Telfair Peet Theatre. The concert will feature guest artist Seung Hee Sylvia Kang, Violoncello. Program repertoire will include works by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Camille Saint-Säens, and Ludwig van Beethoven.

The Low Brass Ensembles from the Department of Music will perform on Wednesday, March 9, at 7:30 pm in Goodwin Recital Hall. The Trombone Choir and Tuba/Euphonium Ensembles will perform under the direction of Matt Wood, low brass profession. These ensembles perform challenging literature including original works, arrangements, and transcriptions. This program will include works by Georges Bizet, Antonín Dvořák, Percy Grainger, Hans Leo Hassler, and Ernesto Lecuona.
