Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 “Choral”
One of the greatest works of music ever to be written is coming to Columbus on October 24. The Columbus Symphony Orchestra, led by Maestro George Del Gobbo will be performing Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, which includes the infamous “Ode to Joy” theme from Friedrich Schiller’s 1785 Ode to Joy. The symphony’s fourth movement includes the Auburn University Chamber Choir, Columbus State University Choral Union, and LaGrange College Chamber Choir along with four world-class soloists:
Leah Partridge, soprano
Phyllis Pancella, mezzo-soprano
Richard Clement, tenor
Reginald Smith, Jr., baritone
The concert will open with a performance of Gustav Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder (Songs on the Death of Children), a song cycle for voice and orchestra, from a set of 428 poems by Friedrich Rückert. Beethoven and Mahler are juxtaposed in two masterpieces that explore the depths of the human soul, from deepest despair to triumphant joy.
Student tickets are only $10! For tickets visit csoga.org/tickets or tickets.com. #InTuneWithColumbus #160voices
