"My book, Social Work and Social Order (University of Illinois Press, 1992) dealt with immigrant communities, issues of assimilation and acculturation, upward mobility, repression, and labor conditions in the Midwest. The visit to BPSOS showed that similar problems are faced by each immigrant group entering the US, including recent Asian immigrants. The Bayou LaBatre experience will help inform my teaching of 19th-20th century U.S. history. Thank you to the organizers who provided an excellent selection of visits. This was highly stimulating and exciting for one who usually approaches global issues through the library, news media, or through personal travel."
