The Department of History offers both a minor and the BA in history. History majors learn about the past and its relevance to the present, discover how to find answers to complex questions, and develop the ability to communicate the results of their research in oral and written forms. The curriculum in the department of history is designed to help students achieve these goals, and the department faculty is comprised of thirty top scholars who have justly been awarded many honors for their outstanding teaching. Students can take courses in a range of specialties from ancient Greece to modern America, from the history of early modern European material culture to the history of the automobile, as well as the history of 20th Century world wars, modern Latin America, religion in North America, and many more subjects.
Check out the pages at the left for more specific information on the course of study and some suggestions on what you can do with a history major. Read the FAQ for answers to many of the most common questions.
Two levels of counseling are available to undergraduates, the Undergraduate Advisor and the Peer Advisor. The peer advisor is a student in the department who is trained to assist you in answering many questions about the major. Stop in during her office hours, or submit a quick question to her at the email below.
Mondays from 1:00-3:00 pm and on Wednesdays from 10:00-11:00 am, then 1:00-3:00 pm.
