Music Performance

Bachelor of Music (Performance)

Students who aspire to use their musical talent and passion in a performance career should pursue a Bachelor of Music degree. The performance degree is exciting and rewarding for students that share an enthusiasm for music and the arts with our faculty and who wish to focus on honing their musical skills to the highest level.

Auburn’s Department of Music provides students with group and individualized training and gain proficiencies in critical thinking, skill development, time management, self-discipline, self-motivation, and focused practice. The program blends together academic knowledge, music ability, and performance skills to create musicians and music scholars who can contribute intellectually and creatively to society. There are three concentrations within the music performance major: instrumental, piano, and voice. The program appeals to students that have achieved a high level of musical ability prior to college and attracts students who participated in musical activities in high school such as private lessons, All-State bands, choirs, and orchestras, performed in a school musical, or performed in high school ensembles.

Because of its challenging music curriculum, entrance into this program is granted upon a successful audition. Music graduates are prepared for careers in teaching music, music performance, arts administration, and graduate school. Students are able to apply the valuable life skills and discipline learned through music to wide variety of careers.

For students seeking certification in teaching public school music, the Bachelor of Music Education degree is offered through the College of Education in partnership with the Department of Music in the College of Liberal Arts. This degree requires an audition for placement in private lesson study, a requirement of the music education curriculum.
