A New Experimental Theatre
For nearly 40 years, Auburn University Theatre students have begun their professional careers in theatre, film, television, and a host of other industries on the stage of the award-winning Telfair Peet Theatre. Our cherished theatrical home has provided our faculty with a place to nurture generations of young talent. Now, our emerging theatre artists can hone their skills in a facility that is as state-of-the-art as the Telfair Peet was when it was built in 1973.
We are excited to announce that construction on the Telfair Peet Theatre addition is complete! Comprised of an experimental (black box) theatre, a dance studio and new office space, the $3 million addition makes Auburn University Theatre a jewel on our campus and a performing arts destination throughout the region. The first show in the new black box theatre, Nunsense, is scheduled to open on October 23, 2014.
The standards we bring to each and every production have grown over the years as the numbers and quality of our faculty and students have grown. This additional rehearsal space is crucial to meet these demands, as are the spaces to help us realize new and innovative production design. The proscenium arch still holds magic for all of us, but the flexibility of an experimental theatre has become a standard throughout the theatre world. Such a space allows our faculty and students' imaginations to run wild and makes it possible to provide theatre that satisfies our increasingly discerning audiences. It also provides the skills and experience our students need to be competitive in their future careers.
